Permanent Christmas light installation generally costs more upfront than it would cost you to purchase and hang regular Christmas lights, or to have regular lights professionally installed. However, for most people, this higher cost is worth it because they don't have to take the time and effort to install and take down lights every year, or hire professionals to do it for them. Instead, they can essentially take a set-it-and-forget-it attitude. It's what the ease of the situation costs to you. We pay a premium for services like food and grocery delivery, so this is really another time-saving option you have to decide is worth your money.
If you're planning to live in your home for at least a few more years, the cost per use for your permanent lights will likely justify the higher upfront costs. (And even if you move within the next year or two, built-in Christmas lights can be used as a selling point.)
Businesses and public buildings, like libraries and churches, are also good candidates for permanent Christmas lights, especially since some of these institutions like to keep the holiday lights glowing all year long.
